Stephen was also a successful jockey before turning to training, most notably as the rider of former star age group galloper Altitude, whose eight wins from 11 starts before his demise included the Gr I 2000 Guineas, Gr I Levin Classic, Gr II Great Northern Guineas and Gr II Avondale Guineas.

Stephen made an instant impact as a trainer during his time as trainer for Te Akau Racing, a job he had for five years. After a solo stint for three years, Stephen took up the role as Graeme Rogerson's co-trainer in Hamilton for six years before joining Te Awamutu father and son trainers Keith and Brendon Hawtin.

He has now moved back to his home town of Matamata and has setup on his own in a purpose build stable right next to the racetrack.

Lynley has been involved in the racing industry all her working life. In the beginning it was riding trackwork in the school holidays which led to a full time job in the stables.

She then went on to work for the Cambridge jockey club helping run their trials and race meetings and also helped other clubs such as Te Rapa, Taupo and more recently worked full time for the Te Awamutu racing club.

She now work hands on with the horses on a daily basis and manage the stable office.
